HDB means Housing and development Board. It is an
organization in Singapore which is responsible for the development and housing
and residential complexes in the country. Singapore is a small country as it is
a small island. The HDB is a statutory board in Singapore of the Ministry of Development
which is responsible for the maintenance of housing colonies as well as HDB for sale or HDB Flats for sale in the country. The term is commonly used to refer
to low-cost apartments build by the board. 2 room flat with 1 bedroom, 3 room
flat with 2 bedrooms are the famous ones for the single living people in the
country as the place for these flats are less and also these are available at
very low prices.
Housing and development Board is formed in 1960. It is
credited with clearing up the land from slums and squatters in 1960s and
provides those residents or citizens’ flats at very affordable prices. Till
then the HDB is working very efficiently. The preceding agency of it is
Singapore Improvement Trust. The jurisdiction applied on it is Government of Singapore.
The HDB has a headquarter in the country in HDB Hub, 480 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh,
Singapore 310480. The Agency is also named as Koh Cher Siang, Chairman. Besides
this Mr. Cheong-Chua Koon Hean(Dr.) is the CEO of it.
In the last 1990s, the Housing and Development Board
concentrated to upgrade the existing older-flats, installing the new facilities
such as to install the lifts that stop on every floor. Studio apartments were
specially built to suit the needs of Senior Citizens or the physically disabled
person in the Singapore’s Aging Society. Moreover some of these flats were
bought by the working singles. The most amazing thing in this Is that these
were bought up very quickly by these kind of people.
In July 2003, the Building and Development Divison of HDB
was corporatized to from HDB Corporation Pte.Ltd or one can say that the board
is privatized and it is named as HDBcorp. In short. HDB corp. was later renamed
as Surbana Corporation Pte. Ltd. Earlier the head quarter was located at Bukit Merah
and from June 10, 2002 it was moved to their new premise which is at Toa Payoh.
The Bukit Merah premise is known as Surbana One in the present time and it
became the Headquarter for Surbana Corporation Pte.Ltd. after the shifting of
office of HDB.
